Organiser

So far as I am aware, the event was problem free. So, thanks to all the team leaders and helpers who kept my work to a minimum. Especially thanks to Bob Alderson, the weekend organiser, who left me with only the basics to do. As my first experience of organising it was an uneventful and enjoyable day.

Paul Scotting

Planners

I hope you enjoyed the racing and the mild weather.

Apologies for the un-notified recent felling: I hope it didn't spoil your runs. Although I discovered the recently felled area marked on the start lane maps, my route for putting out controls didn't go near the newly felled area to the north of it.

My course planning for this type of event tried to emphasise decision making at speed together with physical, longer, hard running legs, and a route into the finish of the chasing start which allowed head to head racing.

This type of 2-stage event, with a chasing start second race, can be fun and provide some keen competition and variety so it's a pity they aren't run more often. It is possible they could be staged as part of a local event, especially when the area is marginal for blue or brown courses. With electronic punching it should be possible to arrange a self-start chasing race and not require extra helpers, it may even be possible to re-use 2 of the colour coded courses saving work for the planner.

Anyone feel like trying it?

Thanks to the controller Mark Thompson for his helpful comments and corrections.

Controller

I think Phil did an excellent job in planning at Blidworth. Twenty years ago there were no brambles and it was a great, runnable forest. This event was originally at Rufford but due to all the map corrections and recent felling as well as losing part of an already small area, it was changed. Due to problems with Ocad, spotted by Ray Barnes just before printing, Phil had to do some last minute re planning but I think it all went well on the day. Thanks also to Paul Scotting and his team of willing helpers who all made the event run smoothly.
